Anne of Green Gables the Musical (KWMP)

In June of 2013 I auditioned for Anne of Green Gables the Musical, for a local theatre company called “KW Musical Productions” or “KWMP” for short.  I went in to the audition room with very low confidence because I was had no previous experience in musical theatre. After the audition I thought it went horrible.  I thought they just said “good job” because they didn’t want to be mean. Little did I know a couple days later, I would find out that I was cast as Tommy Sloane (one of the school boys).

I was so thrilled to be cast in such a big show that was going to be performed at The Centre in the Square which is my hometown’s biggest theatre with over 2000 seats available to be sold. The rehearsals for this show went from September 2013 - November 2013 and they ran on Sundays from 1 pm - 10 pm and on Thursdays from 6 pm - 10 pm. This was a huge commitment for me as I was already performing in KW Glee which took up my Monday nights and Saturday mornings so making sure I got my homework done for school before rehearsals was very important. Mid November is when “AAG KWMP” took the stage for the first time when we performed a “school show” which is where schools from all over our home town could come and see the show at a discounted rate as a field trip. This show was a huge success and it brought the well-known, loved book to life with music. Anne of Green Gables was definitely my favourite musical I have ever done, mostly because of the amazing cast and crew that I got to work with.  The amazing venue we got to perform at a real bonus too.

Along with performing I got to work with the marketing team for the show by going around town promoting it.  KWMP even went as far as making an advertisement for the GRT which is our local bus service.  It was so cool to drive around town and park beside a bus with the show that you’re in on the side of it.  This marketing campaign is what helped guide me into what I wanted to do with my life.   Hence the reason I am studying Advertising and Marketing Communications at Sheridan College today.  I highly recommend to all of my blog readers to go and see or be in a KWMP show at some point in your life because KWMP have helped guide me into what I want to do with my life while having fun doing it.

Broadway Our Way

This past spring in April I had the amazing opportunity to perform with KW Musical Productions again but instead of doing a huge production at the Centre in the Square, we did a smaller production of various Broadway favourites at a smaller theatre called the Registry Theatre in Kitchener. This show was called “Broadway Our Way” which basically entailed us volunteers (who have been given so much by the company over the years) giving back to the company by performing many favourite numbers from a variety of different Broadway shows.

This was an amazing experience and I loved the fact that we could have loads of fun, make money and raise awareness for this gracious company. Overall, this was a fun and educational experience.  I’m so grateful to have this community in my life.

KW Glee

In January of 2013 I joined an amazing show choir called KW Glee. We rehearsed every Saturday morning from 9:00 am - 1:30 pm and every Monday evening from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm. This took up a lot of my time during high school so time-management skills were very pertinent when it came to getting all my assignments in on time. We rehearsed every Saturday and Monday from January all the way to May when we would have our big show. We performed three sold out shows at Drayton Entertainment’s Dunfield Theatre.  The 500 seats each night were filled with supportive friends, parents and even fans. This was my first time on a big stage so I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but that stage fright went away very quickly as I learned how to apply my bubbly personality into my performing.

KW Glee puts on two shows a year and they call them “terms”, I was in terms 7,8 and 9. Term 7 was in the spring of 2013, term 8 was in the fall of 2013 and term 9 was in the spring of 2014. My favourite term was most definitely term 9 when I had a solo in the song “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble. If any of you know me personally you all know how much I adore Michael Buble and the work he does so it was a huge honour for me to sing one of his songs in my local glee club. KW Glee’s videos are up on YouTube which includes Haven’t Met You Yet! Enjoy!
